I had this issue with WordPress a few times and I wish I had this solution guide when it was happening. It took me forever to sort it. I realized I had to change the wp-db.php file and repair the database. Thankfully I had backups!

Thanks, I had my wait timeout set way too high and it was causing MySQL to skyrocket and eventually crash. I could not figure it our until I read over these tips and it clicked. Still quite new to finding solutions myself.
